Salome Tanuvasa holds a BFA (Hons) and MFA from the University of Auckland's Elam School of Fine Arts. She was born in Auckland, Aotearoa, New Zealand, and is of Samoan and Tongan heritage.
A visual artist concerned with an economy of means and everyday materials, Salome combines the contemplation of domestic ritual and found material to produce joyfully vibrant, abstract textile or painterly offerings. The pieces can manifest as automatic drawings, unstretched canvas, or stitching through to appliqué. Often reflecting on what it means to create a visual language or make marks, Salome thinks of her work as moments of truth-telling influenced by the immediate environment around her.
