From her studio/gallery in Duvauchelle, Banks Peninsula, Anna Dalzell continues to extend her practice as an artist; working in a range of media she explores the potential of printmaking, painting, jewellery and sculpture. Through her practice, Anna considers our connection to our environment, exploring the impacts and relationships we have, both past and present, with and within the land. Human rights; equality; migration; boundaries; and the impact of colonisation, all influence her artworks’ subject matter and themes. Historical narratives often play a role, shedding light on stories from the past in the hope of a better future, particularly those concerning women.
Anna studied Graphic Design and Printmaking at CPIT, in Ōtautahi Christchurch, going on to complete an Artist’s Residency at Whanganui Polytechnic which involved press building, and teaching drawing and printmaking. In 2016, she was a finalist in the Parkin Drawing Prize and in 2022 she voyaged on an Artist Passage to the Subantarctic Islands with Heritage Expeditions.
Over the past two decades, Anna has exhibited locally, nationally and internationally; showcasing an exquisite diversity of thought-provoking work in which aesthetics and beauty remain central. She has taught drawing, printmaking and art therapy at schools, tertiary institutions and non-governmental organisations throughout her career, both in Aotearoa and abroad.
