Reuben Paterson’s work is immediately recognisable for his playful and transformative use of glitter. Cultural motifs and pattern are often present in his work and act as both a deliberate exploration of glitter’s optical potential, and the socio-political connotations of sparkly adornment.

In 1997 Paterson both graduated from Auckland University's Elam School of Fine Arts and became the youngest ever recipient of the Möet et Chandon Fellowship. Other residencies have taken him to New York, Greece and Korea. Paterson has received many significant accolades, including the Wallace Arts Trust Development Award 2005. His works can be found in major institutions throughout New Zealand and Australia.
