The zone could be seen as Christchurch’s post earthquake trauma of disconnect and renewal, but here it is more about the clear receptive inventive space that Louise Bourgeois calls between memory and oblivion, or Andrei Tarkovsky’s mysterious, metaphysical zone in Stalker.

Navigating the Zone is my creative journey, the life of the artist.

Elizabeth Thomson

Meticulous and audacious, by equal measure, sculptor Elizabeth Thomson’s work suggests the role of the artist might also be that of botanist, mathematician, aviator, micro-biologist and teller of tall tales.

A leading New Zealand artist, Elizabeth Thomson (born 1955) lives and works in Wellington. Her relief sculptures and prints are held in major public and private collections here and abroad.
