There is an eerie glow in the skies and a yearning for contact, for communication of any sort perhaps, in John Walsh’s paintings – his new exhibition at The Central called Things Have Changed. There is an intensity, an underlying heat to the land and seascapes here – an aura of the fantastic. Yet the settings still feel of this place. But there is magic in the air. In other words Uawa, Tolaga Bay (John’s birthplace), remains the life force of these paintings as we stand before the new normal, and learn to live again in these strange, changed times.
