Karl Maughan

From Otipua to Rabbit Hill, have the gardens of Canterbury ever looked so good?
Those slow-growing camelias and rhodos, alongside careful paths and boisterous borders of perennials…I love the range of textures and sculptural forms in these gardens, the different densities of foliage and brazen flashes of colour. T’is just like a painting!
Slipping between artifice and remembered reality in the way that artists enable us to look and look again at the world – that is one of the pleasures of Karl Maughan’s painting.
