Larisse Hall
time is. of the essence.
23rd June - 24th July 2022
Larisse Hall makes light infused paintings – works that fuse the ethereal qualities of light with the materiality of paint and form. “I use traditional techniques of glazing with oil paint on hand-stretched forms” she says; and then taking “light, our oldest time tool as both medium and time reference, I use an act of spontaneity to acknowledge action and decision. Capturing a moment in time, in the present, extends it into the future, to become past. This highlights the fragility of our presence, while archiving existence. Acknowledging time is not an infinite resource, instead, a precious commodity to be cherished". Consequently, Hall's work looks very different by day and then by night.
When viewing works on the website please note that there are both daytime and night time views of each work.
We are delighted to be presenting Larisse’s first solo exhibition in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. And also to share her pleasure in being awarded the Arte Laguna Prize (Italy) 16 21/22, winning an Artist Residency with Final Exhibition at Espronceda in Barcelona, Spain.
Accompanying this exhibition will be an Artist’s Talk with Larisse Hall at 12.00pm Sunday July 3rd, the gallery will remain open until 6pm on this day.
