Where we meet

5 February - 21 March 2026

Where we meet brings together bold new paintings by emerging artists Rebecca J Spence and Malene Laugesen with works by interdisciplinary artist Robyn Webster and ceramicist Robert Wagoner, all exploring the idea of threshold. Within their individual art practices, methodologies, and chosen subject matter, each artist has considered the meaning of threshold beyond perceptions of line, boundary, or limitation. Rebecca’s paintings focus on the spaces where land and water meet, stating “(e)ach work becomes less a literal depiction of place than a distilled reflection of atmosphere, memory, and the shifting emotional terrains tied to the land.”; Malene’s paintings explore the idea of liminal space, created by the illusionary characteristics of light and perspective, as she entwines interior and exterior environments; Robyn’s monotype prints, incorporating harakeke in the printing process, delve into representation of the constructed self, stating “… (my) idea of thresholds and indeterminate space, is of needing a feeling of movement into a better space, from a time of constriction or uncertainty”; and Robert’s singlular ceramic spherical objects, in an array of glazes and textures, represent riverstones that, in their installation form, become one; forming a suggestion of the river water that flows over and around them.
