Christchurch artist Asher Newbery’s first new solo show in six years is inspired by little moments of calm he discovered looking after his daughter in a world of pandemics and climate change.
The show, Ruruhira, named after his two-year-old daughter, runs at the Central Art Gallery in the Arts Centre in Christchurch from Thursday 29th July to 29th August.
Newbery said he set out to create 30 new artworks that were calmer and simpler than his previous pieces. He is known for his abstract impressionism, vivid colours, layered artworks and exploration of his Māori whakapapa through painting.
