Kulimoe’anga Stone Maka artwork

Now on display at Christchurch Art Gallery

The artwork by Maka, called Toga mo Bolata'ane, was first displayed at the Biennale of Sydney festival in 2020.

It is a contemporary ngatu tā'uli (blackened tapa cloth) work consisting of two large pieces.

Curator Melanie Oliver said the artworks tell the story of the relationship between Queen Sālote Tupou III of Tonga and Queen Elizabeth II of Britain.
