Pete Wheeler has spent the last 14 years living and working as a full-time artist in Berlin. In early 2021 he moved back to New Zealand with his young family to find a home and return to his roots in some ways.
In this exhibition, a collection of larger works on linen, and more modestly sized works on paper in oil, Pete has conjured up some of the lasting memories and feelings of his early life, the cold winter moments, the push of the nor wester, blindingly hot summer days, mixed with a boyhood imagination of predator and prey.
