Through the Trees sets contemporary artist Kirstin Carlin (b. 1979) onto a collision course with one of Dunedin's favourite daughters, Frances Hodgkins. Interested in the familiar tropes of art history and image production, Carlin's paintings both celebrate and unravel some of the painterly strategies deployed by Hodgkins. This new exhibition brings Carlin's new paintings together with a selection of works by Hodgkins from the collection of Dunedin Public Art Gallery.
