Showing together for the sixth time Emma Fitts and Kirstin Carlin are exhibiting a work each in the Melanie Roger Gallery window during the galleries summer break.
Similar in size and colour and displaying both artists interest in the domestic, the history of painting, and formal mark-making, the qualities of Carlin and Fitts' intensely bright works are intended to play off each other. Interested in online research and sharing images over email, Emma's and Kirstin's new works, show a tactile response to a digital conversation.
Carlin and Fitts have a long history of collaborating together with previous exhibitions including "74 Heaton St", Christchurch, 2014; "Shadow is Shade", The Physics Room, Christchurch, 2013; "Shade is Shadow", Window, University of Auckland, 2013. In 2015 their work was curated by Natasha Conland into the exhibition "Necessary Distraction: A Painting Show" at the Auckland Art Gallery. For this exhibition work by Emma Fitts was exhibited alongside paintings by Kirstin Carlin. Fitts responded to the work and created four works in the "Seasons" series that used Carlin's painted imagery screenprinted onto silk.
