Lonnie Hutchinson (Ngāi Tahu/Kai Tahu, Samoan, Ngāti Kuri ki Ngāi Tahu) is a multi-media artist who has a highly individualistic approach to art-making.
Her creative process involves working across a wide range of media including moving image, performance, painting, sculpture and installation. Her exhibition at Ramp Gallery opens in parallel with Spark on Monday 8 August for which she will be creating a body of new works on paper.
At Spark, Lonnie will be talking about her recent work and experiences with commissionable work as part of Christchurch’s rebuild with all it entailed including project management, large scale work practicalities, bureaucratic processes and dealing with multiple stakeholders.
Closer to home she will discuss her significant public sculpture Te Wahoroa ki te Ao Maarama - The Entrance way to the World of Enlightenment at Lake Rotoroa, commissioned by MESH Sculpture Trust in 2013.
