Wayne Vickers is a contemporary New Zealand landscape artist whose paintings are born from time spent immersed in some of the country's most remote and spectacular environments. Travelling on foot through alpine passes, rugged coastlines and ancient forests, he develops an intimate understanding of the landscapes that inspire his work. Rather than simply recording a place, Vickers seeks to convey its atmosphere, scale and emotional resonance through expressive brushwork, refined tonal relationships and a keen sensitivity to light. Working exclusively in oils, his paintings balance bold, painterly passages with finely resolved detail, inviting the viewer to experience the quiet power and enduring beauty of New Zealand's wilderness. His work is held in private collections throughout New Zealand and internationally, and he continues to paint from his studio at Papamoa Beach in the Bay of Plenty.
