Jeanette Cervin
Resides near Warkworth, north of Auckland
Known for her flora and fauna works, Janette Cervin’s lush layers of colour and resin on board create delicious illusions of depth; slithers of place and time captured between tiers of glossy resin. Growing up around her parents’ flourishing plant nursery, Janette learnt to appreciate the feast of colour, shapes and textures of the plants surrounding her, and the wildlife they attracted.
Janette’s artwork, Promise of a Brave New World, acknowledges the past, present, and future of the Subantarctic Islands and its inhabitants. Combining representations of thriving flora and fauna, alongside glimpses of humankind relegated to observer, unable to tame the Subantartic's wild environs, Janette creates a symphony of scenes amalgamated into one gloriously non-linear narrative of time.
As an adult student in 2013, Janette gained a Master of Fine Arts in painting, Flowers in a Contemporary Painting Practice, from the Unitec Institute of Technology in Auckland. In 2014, she and her husband moved from the city to settle near Warkworth, on a lifestyle block surrounded by native bush and an abundance of native birdlife; and now her constant creative inspiration.
