Kristin Stephenson Hollis

Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland Kristin has lived in many places including Venezuela, Holland and England and Nelson before settling in Christchurch. She originally trained in Typography, Graphic Design and Printmaking, graduating from the University of Reading and has since completed a MFA at the University of Canterbury.

She has been awarded numerous art prizes including COCA/Antony Harper Travel Award, 2003, and the Cranleigh Barton Drawing Prize 2005. She has exhibited widely within New Zealand and in 2012 her work was selected for the Outer Space programme by the Christchurch Art Gallery.

Her current art practise combines painting with drawing. Sensitive mark making is absolutely characteristic or her work, as is the mixing of washes and inky softness to contrast with the finer linear aspects. Often too, we see little glimpses of her gentle humour which gives her work a joy both in its making and in our beholding of it.
